Experienced swimmers, looking for distance challenge.

THE EVENT
The Swim to the sun set event will consist of four swim periods to choose from – 12 hours, 6 hours, 3 hours and 1hour.
Each lap will be 1.5k with a 500mt short course with in it. the course being set using GPS. see attached route
Swimmers shall enter at their chosen time’s start and see how far they can swim in that time.
All swimmers will receive a swim Cap and certificate with their individual distance achieved
Laps only will be counted at this event.
Come with a buddy/family and friends for support, make sure you have lots of hot drinks plus nourishment you can access from the entry point or come out to feed.
Juniors MUST ALWAYS have a Parent or Guardian present during the events.

REGISTRATION
Report to the Swim Secretary upon arrival at the Start site at ‘the water’s edge behind The Coniston Inn. from 7am.
BRIEFING
Please Note, attendance of the briefing is mandatory – failure to attend this will void your entry. This will be held on the water’s edge.

6 Hour swim @ 12.30pm
3 Hour swim @ 3.30pm
1 hour swim @ 9.30am for 10am and 11am start
1 hour swim @2.00pm for 2.30pm start

COURSE
Will be around buoys which will be set within the northern end of Coniston. This is clearly marked out by yellow buoys. Swimmers must pass outside each of the buoys on each circuit in a clockwise direction. Each time a swimmer passes the start point at the completion of each lap; they must clearly give their number to the Lap Recorders who will be on the shore. The start, finish and more details of the course will be outlined at the briefing.
TIME LIMITS
BE AWARE there will be VERY STRICT time limits – this is to protect YOUR safety and to ensure the smooth running of the swim:
Swimmers you are allowed to stop at any point during the duration of your allocated time.
all swimmers are to use safety lights without exception from 6pm onwards.
please bring your own lights with you if you intend to swim past 6pm.
REALY TEAM SWIM RULES
Each team to keep own lap count and pass to swim secretary for Certificates.
Only one swimmer in water at any one time, hand over is at the water’s edge. NO EXCEPTION Unless due to mobility and needs to be agreed by Swim secretary and safety officer prior to the day.
NON-UK RESIDENTS
Non-UK Residents must provide evidence of membership of their governing body or individual insurance for Open Water Swimming.
LOCATION
Northern end of Lake Coniston
Start is at the water’s edge via car park of the Coniston Inn.
Parking is limited at the Hotel grounds; Local parking is nearby and pay and display carparks.
EMERGENCY SAFETY COVER
Safety cover will be provided by kayaks, lifeguards, and by the BLDSA rescue boats.
Feel free to bring your own kayaker to join our crew.
PRESENTATIONS
The presentation will take place at the water’s edge approximately 45mins after the end of each time.
Certificates will be awarded to all swimmers completing the Swim to the sunset swim with individual distance achieved.
GENERAL INFORMATION
The swim will be held at the northern end of lake Coniston, and this is will also be open to the public. The swim is early in the season and water temperatures can often still be cool.
Experienced swimmers this is an opportunity for you to Build your distance for your marathon swims, where else can you be supervised for 12 hours!
Novices. This is an opportunity to swim and build confidence, gain knowledge and experience from others.
Swimblers welcome too!
If you think you may be able to do 1.5K in 1 Hour, come and try it!

All persons are advised to report any incidents, including near misses, to a nominated person who shall be named at the championship briefing meeting.
The BLDSA has in place Anti-Bullying and Child/ Vulnerable Adult Safeguarding Policies. Copies of which may be obtained from the BLDSA Safeguarding Officer.
Any person associated with the swim is expected to pay any car park charges that may be due from the parking of their vehicle.
