I started outdoor swimming as a move towards training for triathlon events and following a year of wetsuit swimming I had increased my confidence in the water. With a little bit of encouragement from Jean Wilkin Oxley I took the step to swim with the BLDSA. I have been a member of the BLDSA for two seasons and haven’t looked back, or completed a triathlon either. Through the support, welcome and family of the BLDSA I have taken shoreline tasks of timekeeping and spotting on events, including Derwentwater and Windermere. I have already volunteered for events on the 2015 calendar.
I have been working with vulnerable adults and children through my volunteering (matron at theatre events) and teaching career (14 years), maintaining safeguarding updates through my employers. I am aware of current practice and responsibilities around the safety of others within an organisation.
This role would extend my working knowledge and application of safeguarding policy and practice. It would also offer opportunities to take on additional responsibilities supporting my teaching role.
